Animation Introduction
Part 1
What is Animation?
Dictionary version - Animation is the visual art of creating the illusion of motion through the successive display of still images with slightly perceptable changes in positioning of images.
Shorter version - Animation is an art of making impossible things look possible and real.
Animation Example
In the movie, The Big Hero 6, Baymax is a robot created by Tadashi. Its purpose is to take care of people and save many lives. Baymax can walk, talk, and acts like a normal person. It makes people around him feel safe and very comfortable. It can also detect when a person is hurt physically and/or emotionally.
What Makes A Great Animation?
You can tell whether an animation is great or not when you can feel the characters' emotions and their movements or actions are relatable and realistic. Great Animation also has a great quality of drawings and the video should run smooth for people to feel the message of the animation.

Basic Types Of Animation
- Traditional Animation - It is one of the older forms of animation. Traditional animation is sometimes referred to as cel animation. Mostly hand drawn and its called onion skinning. It has 12 frames per second to create an animation sequence.
- 3 Dimentional Animation - Animating objects that appear in a three-dimensional space. They can be rotated and moved like real objects. 3D animation is at the heart of games and virtual reality, but it may also be used in presentation graphics to add flair to the visuals.
- 2 Dimentional Animation - 2D animation focuses on creating characters, storyboards, and backgrounds in two-dimensional environments. 2D animation creates movement in a two-dimensional artistic space. It has 24 frames per second allowing it to create a smooth animation sequence. They do not appear to move toward or away from the viewer, as they would in 3D animation.
- Motion Graphics - This Animation is usually being used for TV commercials. Motion graphics are pieces of digital footage or animation which create the illusion of motion or rotation.
- Stop Motion Animation - This animation captures one picture at a time with objects that are moved between frames/pictures creating an illusion of movement.

- 2 Dimensional Animation - First, some people do not know the difference between 2D and 3D. 2D animation basically deals mostly with the framing and drawing and is the foundation of 3-dimensional animation. The animators of this kind of animation usually creates frames in order to define a sequential frame that is displayed at varying speeds in creating an illusion of motion.
