ParaNorman Reflection
The Characters
My favourite character in this film is Neil. He is the younger brother of Mitch. Neil befriended Norman because they both suffered from being outcasted by others. He was often being bullied because of his chubbiness but defended Norman (the protagonist) when Norman was teased by Alvin. He played a significant role of being Norman's back up to everything, specially from helping Norman to stop the Witch's wrath that was made by Agatha, which was the climax of the story. The animators wanted each characters to be unique. Each characters had a different styles which made the film so interesting.

The Set
This was one of the reasons of the film's success. The setting of this movie played a huge role, it made every scenes look so smooth and realistic. My favourite scene from the movie was when Norman was trying to stop Agatha by telling her the good inside of her. He told Agatha the story written in a magical book that could destroy or eliminate the Witch's presence inside Agatha. On this scene, Agatha's appearance with an electrical power made the setting look yellowish in color and like there was an electrical stuff all over the set.

The Lighting
Without this element, ParaNorman, or perhaps all movies, would be so boring and would look like unimaginative. The Lightings in this film had brought us into the different kinds of mode. The scenes would not be so smooth or going to flow as a movie without lightings. In my opinion, the color green was featured in all the promotional material because the theme was about ghost or things that were unexplainable which symbolized scary things.

The Camera
Camera movements made every scenes of this film look so amazing and impressive. During actions, like Norman was trying to convince Agatha or Aggie to stop punishing and taking revenge on people who sentenced her to death, the camera cuts were getting faster which made the audience able to feel the movie.

The Story
In my opinion, the company Laika chose to do this story as a stop-motion instead of live action or animated because the film is mainly for children and they want to make it enjoying in their eyes. This kind of stop-motion attracts the kids to watch it. The movie promotes the idea that it is important to get to know the character of a person before you judge them. The pacing of the film was good for the story there was no too-long or too-short scene, it was all just right.

Negatives
I saw some negatives in this film like, bullying. Oftentimes, bullies feel the need to hurt others because they fear those who are different. In order to justify mistreatment of people, othering occurs. Another negative was the demeaning languages, specially of the bullies in this film, like "jackass," "weirdo," "fatty," "freak," and some more. They could have changed it to a little less offensive words since there would surely be kids who were going to watch this film.

Behind-the-Scenes Reflection
Perhaps, all or most of the animated films are started with an Animatic Sequence. It is the rough draft of an animated film where the whole or some scenes of the movie are drawn into storyboards. After that, Photographers take shots or pictures of it and make it look like it's moving. Animators or Film makers do animatic sequence first before starting the movie on doing its actual scenes. It is significant and helpful on making an animated film. The characters of this film has so many different kinds of faces. The production team use face replacement technology to change the moods or emotions of each characters. They make a huge amount of faces for all characters of this film. Wondering how many 3 Dimensional printed faces Laika has made for this film? It is approximately 15,000 to 20,000 kinds of different faces for all characters including 8,000 for the film's protagonist, Norman. One of the keys of this film's success is the characters' voices. The voices of these animated characters are really accurate to their personalities and to their appearances as well. It keeps the intensity of this film and makes it so captivating. The voice acting makes you feel the movie's emotion. You can sense that they really work hard on these voices. The settings of ParaNorman are really, really impressive. Laika creates a small world for Norman and the characters of this film. They get the ideas of what are the settings going to look like from different places of real world. Photographers take photos of these places such as: streets, schools, and cities. After that, production members like painters and carpenters do their work of putting those pictures into reality. They use woods, metals, and other kinds of things to create and try to make the settings look the same as the pictures. Many people work together to do the settings of this film, they spend many many hours a day just to make the settings look excellent and extra-ordinary. This is film is done for about 2 years of hard work by its production team.
